What do you value at work and in life?
What do you want to achieve in your career?
What do you want to be world-class in?
Our well-meaning family members, friends, colleagues have likely posed these questions to us at some point in our lives. In fact, these questions can be rather motivational as they lead us to examine internally and clarify the direction we want to take in our life.
But what do you notice about the focus of each of the above questions? They are all about "you", the individual. Instead of asking what one wants to get better at, we can use more purposeful and systemic questions along the lines of:
"What do you need to get better at to serve your employees better?"
"Do you know what your peers say about your contributions?"
"Are you creating or diminishing value for the community you are operating in?"
This shift in focus from self to beyond turns conventional wisdom on its head. One will be hard-pressed to find an organisation that does not advocate individual KPIs and support individual development plans (IDPs). The achievement of individual KPIs can no longer be an end in itself. Neither should IDPs. Who else, besides ourselves, should benefit when we deliver the KPIs and develop ourselves? Who do we need to create value for? Whose burden is lightened because of us, and not despite us?

In the busy world, people gravitate towards doing more and owning more. I do the opposite.

At work, my favorite question is “what can we stop doing that are not adding value to the organization?”

I am a storyteller through data. I distill complicated and unstructured problems into simple forms and help organizations make better decisions. Currently, I am the Finance Director at Amazon, serving the finance team that oversees the data center operations in Asia (APJC). My mission at work is to be an owner multiplier - by creating space for big thinking and innovation, by giving people stretch challenges that grow them, by creating the conditions for robust debate, by investing in people, and by instilling ownership and accountability.

I am also an angel investor, supporting founders who have the vision to make positive and impactful contributions to their communities.

I m graduated from Aerospace and Finance, with a Bachelor, and a Master degrees. i have been working in FRANCE for 10 years and moved to Singapore more than 10 years ago. I spent much more time overseas than in FRANCE, and has a career path in the Company, up to a CEO position, where i a m now. All along the journey, i have been careful to have sponsors, mentors, who could/can help me toward the experiences, and i m happy now if I can give back more with the youngest generations, and especially nowadays, with the COVID-19 has revamped many businesses, careers etc. I also consider that supporting mentee, will help to improve myself.

I currently work as a Technical Content Developer at Tribe. What I do is generally write coding tutorials and set assignments for a Learn and Earn platform. It was only in this new role where I met people who told me that they had mentors and it made me really intrigued about mentoring. I was previously a school teacher where I had the fortune of educating 13 to 16 year olds in Geography and Social Studies. It was also there where I had the opportunity to help youths chart out their possibilities in life. I studied Geography in university, and this is something I’m rather passionate about too. It is also because of my studies that I enjoy travelling quite a far bit. I enjoy immersing myself in other cultures and observing how the locals live. I’m an avid reader and I like to learn more about the world and how things work. I love to ask the ‘How’ and ‘Why’s to understand things better. I enjoy conversations with people which are intellectually stimulating too.
