Synopsis

September is World Suicide Prevention month. Coming up in October is World Mental Health month.

Mental health is a clear and urgent issue in today’s society - it is the next major epidemic. Chronic stress, anxiety, and depression have become the defining health issues of our time. For many, life increasingly feels like a treadmill that they can’t get off, while others experience a growing sense of loneliness, isolation and disconnect despite living in an age of digital super-connectivity

Alarmingly, youth mental health challenges have also been on the rise. Research has shown that fully one in four youths in the industrialized world suffer from some form of mental health disorders. Youth suicides have been going up steadily around the world in recent years. More and more young people are engaging in self harm. And this was before the pandemic.

Parenting can be a challenging journey and has always been, but never been more taxing in this always-on world where there's nowhere to hide, where relationships are fleeting, with devices that constantly distract while craving attention - and where external events and circumstances are changing faster than most of us can fathom, let alone navigate successfully.

As parents it can leave us clueless at times, probably more so than any time in human history.

It is more urgent now than ever that we bring back the notion of “purposeful parenting” - the end goals and the why of parenting and raising a family - and to bring happiness and wellbeing back to the dinner table conversations. Parenting indeed can be most purposeful and rewarding, when we see our children and our family blossoming and thriving; the question is what we need to do - and do differently - to thrive and to blossom as parents, and as family, in this increasingly more connected yet uncertain world.

Come join our panel of distinguished speakers as they share their experiences of parenting and family-building, and how they have found purpose and wellbeing on their journey to create “One Happy Family”.
