Synopsis

Clara and Luuk co-founded the Singapore Deep-Tech Alliance (SDTA) in 2020 with a vision to build and invest in science-based ventures that generate both sustainable impact and financial returns

During their technology scouting efforts in 2023, Clara identified the groundbreaking field of digital phenotyping invented at Harvard Medical School. Recognising its transformative potential, she led the incubation of a Population Health venture within SDTA, leveraging this cutting-edge science and the Alliance's robust ecosystem. Following a successful incubation journey, Universal Health is now poised to launch its solutions in the market. This landmark achievement signifies a pivotal moment for public health in Singapore.

Luuk is on a mission to build tech companies that can make a positive impact globally. Luuk holds a Bsc. in Liberal Arts & Science and a Msc. in Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Technology (Magna Cum Laude). He started his first business at age of seventeen and has been an entrepreneur ever since. During this time in Europe, Luuk founded three businesses in the fields of energy monitoring, education and software quality. Luuk sold his second business (40 FTE) at the age of 26. Luuk then moved on to co-found Singapore Deep Tech Alliance (SDTA). SDTA is a innovation platform and venture builder bringing together research institutes and corporates to build deep-tech ventures based on technology coming out of research institutes. To date, SDTA has built and invested in 20 ventures with the aim of building 50 companies over the next 5 years. SDTA achieved its first successful exit after just 3 years of operations.

Clara is a serial entrepreneur who has spent two decades influencing change through media, technology, and investment. She is deeply committed to fostering solutions that uplift communities, and her current entrepreneurship endeavours are focused on two key areas: - A non-profit leveraging catalytic capital to uplift communities through innovation; and - A population health company integrating science into daily routines to eradicate mental illnesses and end today’s separate but unequal approaches for mental and physical health.
As a caregiver for a parent with schizophrenia and survivor of suicide loss as a child, Clara is driven by a belief in social impact to create a better life for our population and has: - Leveraged technology and media to create a new income stream for hundreds of thousands of platform workers; - Created hundreds of jobs and communities with hundreds of thousands of members across 17 time zones; - Represented a MAS-licensed fund manager and using financing vehicles to impact lives; - Lectured in due diligence (venture capital) to help investors and entrepreneurs pay attention to what matters; - Volunteered in healthcare and education institutions to serve disadvantaged communities; and Deliberately sought a broad and multidisciplinary education     — Law, Venture Finance, Marketing, and an Executive MBA     — to build and drive organisations that address complex societal challenges forward.

A former Apple Distinguished Technologist, Yen-Lu is an award-winning entrepreneur, technologist, venture catalyst & angel investor, mentor & advisor turned author and keynote speaker, mental wellbeing champion, social innovator & change-maker, ecosystem builder, philanthropist and humanist.


As an angel investor and venture catalyst in the tech ecosystem, Yen-Lu has mentored young entrepreneurs and businesses for many years. He has made significant contributions to the Singapore tech and entrepreneurship ecosystem, serving on countless startup business plan competitions internationally, government panels on innovation and entrepreneurship, and as mentor and advisor to the major universities. He co-founded a business angel fund in partnership with the Singapore government, served as a director of Business Angel Network SEA, executive mentor and adjunct professor to NUS Enterprise, mentor to INSEAD, plus numerous panels on entrepreneurship and innovation internationally. As an expert and practitioner in speech recognition and language processing (with 6 international patents and having worked in the field for over 20 years since early 1980’s while leading Apple’s initiative in this area in the early 1990’s), he was an early pioneer in the application of AI with a strong base in the tech space. 


He sits at the nexus of three major social ecosystems: mental health, mentoring and sustainability, bringing extensive experience in tech and entrepreneurship to build ecosystems and mobilize communities to create positive social change. In a fast-paced world where the only constant is change, he believes there is an urgent need for each of us to draw on our strengths and creative potential as human beings to contribute towards humanity in a positive and impactful way. He enjoys building ecosystems and mobilizing the community to create positive social change. With the launch of his family foundation and other social impact initiatives, Yen-Lu devotes his time serving both society and the nation in his various capacities. 

He is on a life mission to help bring about a kinder, gentler, more inclusive, more just, and sustainable world.
