Short Bio : Alex Boome is the Program Director for the Hinrich Foundation’s education programs. He has 30+ years of experience in business-to-business international trade facilitation, and expertise in trade education and skills development with an emphasis on Southeast Asia and Greater China. Alex manages a global portfolio of postgraduate scholarships as well as leading the development of the Hinrich Foundation’s trade courseware initiatives. His focus is engaging business and academia to develop new approaches to educating leadership talent in the export trade sector, with the goal of equipping graduates with exceptional strategic, managerial and twenty-first century skills. For more than 20 years, Alex has worked with trade employers to understand their employee and executive education needs. He has developed and coordinated employer-sponsored scholarship programs with trade employers across the Asian region. He is the Foundation’s project manager for its partnership with RMIT Vietnam to develop and launch the innovative Master of Global Trade, now in its fourth intake with 50 employer partners. He also coaches the leadership committee of the Hinrich Foundation Alumni Association which aims to provide alumni of the Foundation’s scholarship programs with opportunities for lifelong learning and professional development. Prior to the Hinrich Foundation, he worked in the business-to-business export media industry with NASDAQ-listed Global Sources Ltd as General Manager of Corporate Marketing. He also served as a regional export consultant, working with export manufacturers across Emerging Asia and Greater China to assist them to do business with import buyers worldwide. He served as a US Peace Corps volunteer in Palawan, Philippines (1987-1989) where he established programs in community livelihood development, family health and the sustainable use of natural resources for economic and social benefit. Alex has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of British Columbia, Canada, where he majored in Southeast Asian and Latin American studies.
