How can schools embrace innovation while protecting students, supporting staff well-being, and maintaining trust with parents and the wider community?

In this fireside chat, Yen-Lu Chow, founding executive chairman of WholeTree Foundation / Over-The-Rainbow (OTR) and Asia Institute of Mentoring (AIM), will serve as moderator in a timely panel discussion featuring Jeff Lee, founding CEO of Zoala, Tan Chor Pang, leader & innovator in education and  retired MOE Principal, and Rene Chu, GM, Learning and Teaching Expo HK, lifelong educator and wellbeing practitioner – to explore the topic on how schools can approach safe and responsible AI implementation.

Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Computing, he commenced his journey as an application developer, swiftly advancing to pivotal roles in addressing industry challenges. Starting in Malaysia, he honed his problem-solving skills before extending his influence to Hong Kong and Australia.

Jeff's entrepreneurial journey has been characterised by a range of experiences. His successful ventures in Australia and Malaysia served as catalysts for his passion and support for his current venture, Zoala. Zoala embodies his unwavering commitment to leveraging technology for societal betterment, particularly focusing on adolescent mental wellness. Jeff's multifaceted experience, combined with his academic achievements, serves as an ongoing source of inspiration to those around him.

Jeff holds an Executive MBA from NUS Business School and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Psychology. As he navigates the dynamic landscape in Singapore, his extensive industry experience continues to fuel his pursuit of innovative solutions.

Renee Chu

GM, Learning and Teaching Expo, Educator, Wellbeing Practitioner

Rene has over 20 years of experience in education, beginning as a frontline English teacher and later co-founding one of Hong Kong’s largest private learning chains. She holds a Master in Counseling from Monash University and has worked directly with young people at a local youth mental health center—experience that deeply informs her approach to student well-being.

As AI and technology rapidly reshape learning, Rene remains committed to balancing innovation with humanity. She is especially mindful of the digital divide among students and parents, and the impact of technology on emotional health. At the Learning and Teaching Expo, she created the Parents’ Summit to help families become future-ready while recognizing the essential role of parenting in the digital age.

At LTE2025, Rene took a major step forward by championing social-emotional learning and mental well-being for both students and teachers — priorities that stand at the heart of her work.

Tan Chor Pang

Leader & Innovator in Education; retired MOE Principal

Tan Chor Pang has over 3 decades of leadership experience in schools. In his various roles, including principalship of 3 different schools, he is often heralded by peers and superiors to be `ahead of his time’ in innovative solutioning and strategic leadership. The most recent innovation, the novel approach to schooling, which is family-oriented CCA-centric model with an Aspiration-focus, garnered the MOE Innergy Silver Award (2018), Gold Award (2019) and the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Innovation in the Normal Course (2020). He shares his passion by imparting innovative thinking with examples of his life-time leadership experience in ideating and implementing systemic change in various schools.

In the last 5 years, Chor Pang has been providing educational consultancy, leadership training and executive coaching for schools and social organisations in school and the region.

A former Apple Distinguished Technologist, Yen-Lu is an award-winning entrepreneur, technologist, venture catalyst & angel investor, mentor & advisor turned author and keynote speaker, mental wellbeing champion, social innovator & change-maker, ecosystem builder, philanthropist and humanist.

As an angel investor and venture catalyst in the tech ecosystem, Yen-Lu has mentored young entrepreneurs and businesses for many years. He has made significant contributions to the Singapore tech and entrepreneurship ecosystem, serving on countless startup business plan competitions internationally, government panels on innovation and entrepreneurship, and as mentor and advisor to the major universities. He co-founded a business angel fund in partnership with the Singapore government, served as a director of Business Angel Network SEA, executive mentor and adjunct professor to NUS Enterprise, mentor to INSEAD, plus numerous panels on entrepreneurship and innovation internationally. As an expert and practitioner in speech recognition and language processing (with 6 international patents and having worked in the field for over 20 years since early 1980’s while leading Apple’s initiative in this area in the early 1990’s), he was an early pioneer in the application of AI with a strong base in the tech space. 


He sits at the nexus of three major social ecosystems: mental health, mentoring and sustainability, bringing extensive experience in tech and entrepreneurship to build ecosystems and mobilize communities to create positive social change. In a fast-paced world where the only constant is change, he believes there is an urgent need for each of us to draw on our strengths and creative potential as human beings to contribute towards humanity in a positive and impactful way. He enjoys building ecosystems and mobilizing the community to create positive social change. With the launch of his family foundation and other social impact initiatives, Yen-Lu devotes his time serving both society and the nation in his various capacities. 

He is on a life mission to help bring about a kinder, gentler, more inclusive, more just, and sustainable world.
